The Ranger men's basketball team pulled within one-and-a-half games of Lewis in the North Division standings after a 65-60 win over the Flyers in the DeSimone Gymnasium Friday night. The win gave the Rangers a 5-9 mark in league play, while the division-leading Flyers are now 6-7. Parkside is 8-13 overall and Lewis is 13-11.
The rematch will take place in Romeoville, Illinois, Saturday, Feb. 12, at 3:15 p.m. Prior, the Rangers will play a non-conference game at Wayne State Monday, Feb. 7, at 6:30 p.m. CST.
The Rangers stayed in the North Division chase by overcoming two major Lewis runs. The Flyers had a 10-0 run in the first half and a 14-0 spurt in the second stanza.
Lewis had a chance to force overtime on a three-point shot with 5 seconds left. The shot was off the mark and rebounded by Sam Katula. Jeremy Saffold did the rest, knocking down both of his free throws.
Jordan Mach led the Rangers on the score sheet with 19 points. The league's leading three-point shooter made good on five from behind the arc.
Saffold added 13 points to the winning cause and Tim Baines chipped in a dozen.
Parkside won the battle underneath, out-rebounding their guest, 34-30.
