Barsuli Sends Rangers to Second Round!

The Rangers are on to the second round
The UW-Parkside women's soccer team is back in familiar territory in the NCAA Tournament ... a date with Grand Valley State University. Stephanie Barsuli sent the Rangers into the second round with an overtime goal for a 2-1 win over Quincy University on Friday night. Parkside will now take on the two-time defending national champion Lakers for the fifth time in five trips to the NCAA Tournaments. The schools have split the previous four meetings.

The Rangers got on the board early against Quincy scoring on their first shot of the contest. The ball was played up the left side to Shannon Becker who lofted it over to the right side to Crystal Chalery who touched  it home for the lead in the 15th minute.

Despite being outshot 7-4, the Rangers were able to carry that 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.

Quincy came out firing in the second half and was able to even things up in the 64th minute. Brittany Casey finished off a misread by Cassie Glodowski on a corner kick to knot the match at one goal a piece and elevate the tension.

The Rangers put three more shots on goal in the second half but couldn't get the go-ahead across as the game headed to overtime.

In the extra session, the first shot ended up being the last. Barsuli's shot was blocked by defender Lauren Drewett but the official ruled she was in the goal and the Rangers rushed onto the field with a 2-1 victory.

The team's attention will now turn to Sunday's showdown with #1-ranked, Grand Valley. The Lakers ended the Rangers season last year with a 3-0 victory in Allendale. The teams will kick-off Sunday at 12:00 p.m. CST.
