The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team responded from a defeat on Friday with a big 1-0 victory over 16
th-ranked Bellarmine University.
Emily Konior scored her first career goal for the Rangers in the eighth minute and the defense made it hold up for a key GLVC win. The Rangers improved to 6-2 in league play while the Knights absorbed their first loss and are now 7-1. Parkside is now a game behind the three front-runners who all sit at 7-1.
The Rangers controlled the early going and were able to cash in on their third corner kick.
Madison Pickett teed one up and Konior finished with a header just 7:12 into the match. Parkside came in 5-0 when scoring first and counted on their defense the rest of the way to make the goal stand.
They nearly added to the lead at the 30:11 mark but
Natalie Brown's shot clanked off the post and bounced away keeping the match at 1-0. The Rangers outshot the Knights 8-5 for the period and took the lead into the locker room.
Bellarmine turned the tables in the second half and outshot Parkside 6-4 but was able to put just one shot on goal. Three of those shots came in the final five minutes as the Rangers fought off a late rush and held on for the victory.
Cassie Glodowski recorded the shutout for the Rangers, the 30
th of her career. She had three saves on the day as she improved to 6-2. It was also the 50
th win of her career. She is 50-10-7 as the Parkside keeper.
The Rangers will return home next weekend to start a four game home stand. They'll get it started on Friday with a 1:15 match against Kentucky Wesleyan College.
