The first 13 shots from the floor that were attempted by the UW-Parkside women's basketball team found the bottom of the net in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game in the DeSimone Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Rangers parlayed their fast start into a convincing 83-57 win over Illinois-Springfield.
The first 13 Ranger shots translated to a 28-8 lead, just 8 minutes into the game. The Rangers led by as many as 25 in the first half. UW-Parkside was up, 51-31, at the break.
With 5:48 left in the game, Brittany Beyer became the 13th player in UW-Parkside women's basketball history to score 1,000 points. Beyer knocked down a pair of free throws, scoring her 17th and 18th point of the game to ensure the feat happened at home. The Rangers' next game is at Quincy Thursday, Jan. 13, at 5:30 p.m.
Beyer ended with 18 points and was the Rangers' top point-getter. Four others joined the new 1,000-point club member in double figures including Jadee Rooney, 16; Brittany Hogen, 10; Jaleesa Trussell 10; and Amy Selk, 10.
UW-Parkside shot a staggering 69 percent in the first half and 53 percent for the game, while limiting the Prairie Stars to 37 percent from the floor. UW-Parkside had a decided advantage in rebounding as well, out-boarding their foes, 44-28.
The Rangers have now won six games in a row. They have a 12-2 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in league play. The Prairie Stars are 4-9 overall and are 0-6 in the conference.
