UWP throws scare into nation's No. 9

The Ranger men's basketball squad gave Southern Indiana, ranked No. 9 in the nation, all it could handle in front of over 2,500 fans in Evansville, Indiana, Saturday afternoon. The Rangers led into the second half, but bowed to the Screaming Eagles, 93-81.
UW-Parkside fell to 4-9 in conference play and 7-13 overall. Southern Indiana is a stellar 18-2 overall and 10-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The first half was tight with five ties and the biggest lead of the game was just five points. And, that five-point lead belonged to Southern Indiana with just over 3 minutes to play in the stanza. The Rangers scored the final six points of the half to go into halftime with a 37-36 lead.
Southern Indiana went on a 9-0 run early in the second half, opening up a 45-39 lead and looking to take control of the game. The Rangers responded with five quick points and the game remained tight.
For much of the second half, Southern Indiana held a small, but consistent single digit lead. With 9 minutes to go in the game, the Eagles proceeded to go on an 18-7 run to take an 80-65 lead. The Rangers were able to cut the deficit to eight points, but at that point there was only 27 seconds left in the game. 
The Rangers were led by Leneal Harris, who scored a career-high 30 points. Jordan Mach added 19 points.
Next, the Rangers head back home to face Lewis University Thursday, February 3. Tip-off in the DeSimone Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
