Flawless first half of GLVC season

Box Score

The Great Lakes Valley Conference women's soccer season is at the half-way point and UW-Parkside still does not have a loss or a tie. The Rangers improved to 7-0-0 in league play after edging Bellarmine at Wood Road Field Sunday afternoon, 2-1.

The Rangers are 7-1-0 overall with its only loss coming in the season opener to Saginaw Valley State, 1-0. Bellarmine fell to 4-4-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the GLVC.

UW-Parkside started the scoring early. Shannon Becker, the league's leading scorer, broke free to score at 2:49 with an assist from Brynn Darga.

Bellarmine answered quickly, at 6:11. Alissa Reuther scored unassisted to knot the score which remained 1-1 at halftime.

Like the first half, Becker got on the board quickly. This time she needed just 1:27 into the stanza to find the back of the net. She scored her 11th goal of the season off of a rebound with the original shot taken by Crystal Chalery.

Parkside put five shots on net in the contest, compared to a pair for the Knights.

The Rangers will next host Concordia of Chicago in a non-conference game Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 3:00 p.m.
