Parkside, Pumas split a pair

Game 1     Game 2

The Great Lakes Valley Conference softball doubleheader between UW-Parkside and Saint Joseph's College was delayed 3 hours due to rain. Once things got going, each team left the Case Complex with a victory. The Rangers won the opener, 7-2, and the Pumas came back to win the nightcap as nightfall set in, 14-6.

In the Ranger winner, five different players had two hits in the 11-hit attack. Amy Horn stood out with three runs scored and four RBI.

Parkside turned a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead when the home team scored four in the bottom of the third inning.

Kallie Walczak was the winning pitcher, picking up her initial "W" of the season. She went the distance, scattering six hits. She walked two and struck out two. The two runs were back-to-back solo shots in the second inning.

The second game was a slugfest as the Pumas out-hit the Rangers 18-13. Lead-off hitter Christine Holthus had the hat trick in hits for the Rangers. Once again, Horn homered.

The score stood at 9-6, Pumas, heading into the seventh and final frame. The visitors put a five up on the board to put the game away.

Jessica Bryant started on the pitching rubber for the Rangers and was tagged with the loss.

Parkside is now 10-10 overall and 1-5 in the GLVC. The Pumas are 17-10 overall and 6-4 in league play.

The Rangers return to action with a makeup doubleheader at Maryville Wednesday, April 7. The team will then head north on I-55 to take on Illinois-Springfield Thursday, April 8.
