Walczak

Walczak PERFECT against Norse

4/24/2010 4:05:00 PM

Game 1     PERFECTION!

Kallie Walczak mowed down all 21 in a 7-0 win against Northern Kentucky on a foggy, uncomfortable Saturday afternoon on the UW-Parkside campus. Only six of the outs saw a Norse batter make contact as Walczak struck out 15, a day after she fanned 16 Indianapolis batters.

Northern Kentucky's first two batters attempted to bunt their way on in the seventh inning, but a pair of fielding plays by first baseman Lisa Casey tossing to second baseman Stephanie Luska covering, foiled that strategy. Walczak handled things herself in striking out the final batter, swinging, to wrap up the milestone.

NKU hit into five groundouts, including the afore-mentioned bunts. Only one flyout was recorded.

Walczak threw a no-hitter back on March 14, 2009, in a 9-0 win at Drury.

Walczak is now 7-7 on the season and lowered her earned run average under 2 at 1.98.

The Rangers scored five of their seven runs in the home half of the fifth to go with single runs in the second and fourth innings.

Casey had two of the seven Ranger hits.

Northern Kentucky won the opener, 7-3. The Norse plated six in the top of the fourth.

Starting pitcher Jill Vondrak absorbed the loss. She worked three-and-two-thirds innings. Four of the seven runs were earned. Jessica Bryant relieved and did not five up a run the rest of the way.

Casey jacked a three-run homer in the first inning to account for the Ranger runs.

Northern Kentucky is now 27-14 overall and 17-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Rangers are 21-17 overall and 12-12 in league play.

The Rangers return to action when they host non-conference foe St. Xavier in a twinbill Tuesday, April 27, starting at 3:00 p.m.
