Softball splits with Indy

Game 1     Game 2

The two pitchers starred in Game One of a UW-Parkside home softball doubleheader with Indianapolis Friday afteroon. Neither pitcher gave up an earned run in 10 innings as visiting Indianapolis came away with a 1-0 win.

Ranger pitcher Kallie Walczak struck out 16 and walked two. Greyhound hurler Megan Russell also struck out 16. She walked one.

Each team had just three hits. The winning run was unearned. An infield throwing error on a sacrifice bunt allowed a Greyhound run to cross the plate in the tenth.

Parkside's Krista Kelly was the only player on either side with two hits.

In Game Two, the Rangers plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The key hit was a shot up the middle off the bat of Nicki Ekstrom, which chased a pair.

Lisa Casey launched a solo home run in the third.

Jill Vondrak improved her pitching record to 8-3.

The Rangers out-hit the 'Hounds, 10-9.

The split leaves Indianapolis with an overall record of 30-13. The team is 18-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Parkside is 20-16 and an even 11-11 in league play.

UW-Parkside is scheduled to host Northern Kentucky Saturday at noon.
