Game 1 Game 2
Homestanding Bellarmine took both ends of a softball doubleheader in Louisville, Kentucky, Sunday afternoon. The Knights won the opener, 1-0, then took Game Two, 7-4.
Ranger pitcher Kallie Walczak deserved a better fate in Game One, as she pitched a three-hitter. Walczak fanned a dozen and did not walk a batter.
Bellarmine scored its run in the bottom of the fourth inning. A double followed by a costly error accounted for the unearned run.
Christine Holthus had two of the Rangers' five hits.
In the second game, Bellarmine out hit UW-Parkside, 9-6. Walczak came back to pitch two innings of scoreless relief. Starter Lanaya Gutowski was tagged with loss. Of the five runs scored in her time on the rubber, only one was earned. Only one of the seven Bellarmine runs overall was earned.
The Rangers are now 19-15 overall and an even 10-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. See standings: http://www.glvcsports.org/index.aspx?tab=softball&path=softball
Parkside is at home this coming weekend, hosting Northern Kentucky and Indianapolis. The first pitch for each doubleheader is slated for high noon.
