It was a day of mixed results in Owensboro, Kentucky, Saturday afternoon. The homestanding Kentucky Wesleyan softball squad edged UW-Parkside in Game One, 5-4, before the Rangers won a slaughter rule shorted 10-2 contest in Game Two.
In the opener, Kentucky Wesleyan plated a run in the bottom of the seventh to win the game. A walk and two singles did the trick, all with no outs.
Jill Vondrak was the losing pitcher. She was relieved in the seventh by Jessica Bryant, who faced the final batter.
The Rangers out-hit the Panthers, 9-8. Erin Schneider was 3-3.
The second game was all Parkside. The game was halted after six innings due to the 8-runs after 5 innings rule.
Schneider stayed hot, collecting two hits in three plate appearances. Christine Holthus was 3-3 with three runs scored at the top of the order. Lisa Casey was 3-4 with four RBI.
Kallie Walczak gave up two earned runs in six innings in picking up the pitching win. She walked only one and fanned 13.
The Rangers will travel to Bellarmine to take on the Knights on Sunday.
