UWP rebounds to get spilt with USI

Game 1     Game 2

The Ranger softball team put together a pretty solid week. The team won three out of four on a mid-week road trip to Maryville and Illinois-Springfield, then came home to take three out of four over the weekend. The team capped its week with a split versus Southern Indiana at UW-Parkside on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The Screaming Eagles won the opener, 7-2, but the Rangers rebounded to take Game 2, 4-0.

UW-Parkside is now 16-12 overall and an even 7-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Southern Indiana is 13-19 overall, but is far better in league play at 10-8.

Jill Vondrak tossed the complete game shutout in Sunday's second game. She scattered five hits, struck out three and walked three. Vondrak stranded six Southern Indiana runners.

Krista Kelly jacked a three-run homer to left-center in the home half of the fourth inning. Parkside added one more in the sixth.

Southern Indiana raced to a 6-2 lead after two innings in the opener. Kallie Walczak was the losing pitcher. Jessica Bryant pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

Stephanie Luska was credited with two of the Rangers' five hits.

Next up for the Rangers is a date with Lewis in Romeoville Wednesday, April 14. The Flyers are ranked No. 20 in the nation.
