Miners take UWP twice

The homestanding Missouri S&T softball team topped UW-Parkside twice in Rolla, Missouri, Saturday afternoon, 2-0 and 3-2, in eight innings.

In the opener, the Miners scored both of their runs in the home half of the second inning. Kat Smith cranked a two-run homer to left-center.

Kallie Walczak scattered five hits, but took the pitching loss. She walked three and stuck out two.

Offensively, the Rangers came up with six hits, two each from Krista Kelly and Alyssa Wilson.

In the second game, S&T ended the game with a two-out double to right-center in the bottom of the eighth off of pitcher Jessica Bryant, who absorbed the loss. Bryant struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Parkside managed four hits in the nightcap, one was a lead-off home run off the bat of Kelly in the fifth inning.

The losses drop the Ranger record to 7-9 overall and 0-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. S&T jumped to 16-8 overall and 9-5 in league play.

Parkside will next play a non-conference doubleheader at Judson Friday, April 2, before returning home to host Saint Joseph's in GLVC action at noon Saturday, April 3.
