Great season draws its curtain

Box Score

Grand Valley State now has a mind-boggling 18 shutouts on the season after a 3-0 decision over the UW-Parkside women's soccer team. The Midwest Region championship game was contested in Allendale, Michigan, Friday afternoon .

The Lakers, 19-1-2, move on to the Elite Eight of NCAA Division II. The Rangers conclude another strong season with a 16-3-2 mark.

The battle of conference champions saw the Lakers score at 18:10 and 32:14 in the first half. Both goals came off the foot of Alyssa Mira, who notched her third and fourth goals of the season. Ranger goalkeeper Cassie Glodowski got a piece of the first goal. The second was from 20 yards out.

Grand Valley held a 2-0 lead at halftime. The team tacked on a third goal at 61:09 when Kayla Addison popped a short shot over Glodowski's head.

The shot attemps favored Grand Valley 21-5. The Lakers led in the shots on goal category by a 13-1 margin. Kelsey Krzyzaniak forced Chelsea Parise to make her lone save.

Three seniors wore a Ranger uniform for the last time including Krzyzaniak, Kahili Cheng and Caitlin Moon.

The Lakers earned a measure of revenge in the 2010 tilt. Just two years prior, the Rangers beat Grand Valley, 1-0, in the region championship match.
