The UW-Parkside women's soccer team has been in first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference all season long. That trend continued on Friday as the Rangers, ranked No. 12 in the nation, defeated visiting Lewis University, 1-0, at Wood Road Field.
The win ups the Ranger record to 10-1-1 overall and a still undefeated 9-0-1 in the GLVC.
Lewis slipped to 4-7-0 overall and 4-6-0 in league play.
“It was an ugly game, but at the end of the day, we got a result,” reasoned UW-Parkside head coach
Troy Fabiano. “We weren't very dangerous.”
As they have in many games this season, the Rangers got on the scoreboard in the very early stages of the contest. This time it took only 1 minute and 32 seconds for the goose egg to be broken.
Megan Owens scored her first goal of the season. It was set up by
Kristen Benson and
Shannon Becker.
Parkside put three shots on goals in the contest. Lewis could not muster a shot on goal.
The Rangers will next be in action against Quincy, Friday, Oct. 15, at 3:30 p.m. Like the Rangers, the Hawks came into weekend play without a loss in league action.
“The Quincy game should be a big game for us,” forecasted Fabiano. “We have a whole week to prepare.”
