vs. Maryville vs. Illinois Tech
UW-Parkside volleyball seniors Rachel Burmester, Cassie Wilkens and Tami Gleason suited up at home for the last time on Saturday. The Rangers sent the trio out in style with a pair of whitewash wins, 25-16, 25-11, 25-19 over Maryville and 25-20, 25-18, 25-15 over Illinois Tech.
The Maryville encounter was a key Great Lakes Valley Conference contest and keeps the Rangers' hopes alive for a post-season tournament spot. The top eight in the league qualify for the tournament at the site of the highest seed. See standings.
UW-Parkside is now 19-9 overall after the twin wins. The team is 7-5 in GLVC play. Illinois Tech, a team who beat Maryville in straight sets in another non-conference bout, left the DeSimone Gymnasium with a 20-14 record. Maryville is now 4-24 overall and 2-10 in the GLVC.
The Rangers hit for a high percentage in each match, coming up with a .349 against Maryville and .294 against Illinois Tech. Addie Kramer led the Rangers in kills against Maryville with eight. Caroline Langer paced the club in that stat against Tech with 11.
Parkside's tournament hopes ride on the final road trip of the season. The Rangers will play at Drury Friday, Nov. 5, at 7:00 p.m. and then will journey to Kansas City to battle Rockhurst Saturday, Nov. 6, at 3:00 p.m.
