Rangers edge Greyhounds

The UW-Parkside men's soccer team returned to their winning ways after notching a 2-1 victory over hosts University of Indianapolis on Sunday.  The win improves Parkside's record to 5-4-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.  The Greyhounds fall to 4-5 overall and 4-4 in the GLVC.

In the first half, the Rangers controlled most of the action, holding Indianapolis to only one shot the entire half. The dominance paid off as the Rangers struck first on a Ben Kreple penalty kick at 44:25.  The goal was his fourth of the season.

The Rangers entered the second half with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Rangers struck again when Spencer Bursten scored on a setup from Anthony Keller at 60:31.  The Rangers continued to enjoy a 2-0 advantage until the Greyhounds scored at 83:29 on a penalty kick to cut the lead in half.  That proved to be all the scoring in the contest as the Rangers held on for a 2-1 victory.
 
The Rangers finished the contest with eight shots and four corner kicks.  The Greyhounds finished with five shots and five corner kicks.  Both teams combined for 33 fouls in the game with three yellow cards and two red cards.

The Rangers return to action at home Friday, Oct. 8 against Lewis University.  The game is scheduled for a 1:15 p.m. start.
