No. 2 USI too much for Rangers

"For the first time this season, I thought we were a bit overwhelmed," said UW-Parkside head coach Luke Reigel on WRJN radio after the game. "We were a bit intimidated. USI is so athletic and is just a great team."

Undefeated Southern Indiana, now 18-0, defeated the Rangers, 78-67 at the DeSimone Gymnasium Thursday night. Parkside slipped to 8-13 overrall and 3-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Southern Indiana is ranked No. 2 in the nation.

USI tallied 28 points off of 27 UW-Parkside turnovers.

The Rangers, who trailed by as many as 19 points with 7:36 to go in the game, cut the deficit down to 67-57 with 5:12 to go. The teams traded baskets to close the game.

Jeremy Saffold scored 17 points for Parkside. Grant Johnson notched 14.

The Rangers out-rebounded the Screaming Eagles, 46-33.

Next up for UWP is a game with Indianapolis in the DeSimone Gymnasium Saturday, Jan. 30, at 3:00 p.m.
