The ball was in the air as the final horn sounded, yet the outcome of the UW-Parkside men's basketball game at Maryville was still in the balance.
The highly contested shot by Maryville's three-point sensation Eric Gruenewald hit the front of the iron and the Rangers preserved a thrilling 76-75 victory in St. Louis.
It was the second consecutive road victory for the Rangers as they improved to 8-11 overall and 3-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The eight win total is significant because it eclipsed the entire win total of last season.
The Saints jacked up three's all night, making good on just 13 of a whopping 40 attempts from behind the arc. The Rangers held Maryville to just 33 percent shooting overall, while making good on 50 percent of their shots. Parkside led most of the night, leading by 10 at 45-35 at intermission.
The Saints grabbed their first lead since the early going at 75-74 on a jumper by Tyler Saxton with 24 seconds left in the game.
Kevin Senechalle hit a clutch shot with 7 ticks left on the clock to put the Rangers up, and a sturdy defensive stand did the rest.
Four Rangers scored in double figures led by
Jeremy Saffold with 18 points. Senechalle logged his first collegiate double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Jamere Dismukes, who had eight assists and three steals, finished with a dozen points.
Zach Blesich added 10 points to the winning cause.
The Rangers will look to win their third straight game on the road when they challenge Missouri S&T Saturday at 1 p.m.
