The Ranger women's basketball team's eight-game winning streak came to an end in Louisville, Kentucky, Saturday night. The homestanding Bellarmine Knights captured an 80-69 victory over UW-Parkside.
Parkside scored the first two points of the game and that turned out to be the only lead it would have. Bellarmine led by as many as 15 points in the late stages of the first half and held a 40-26 buldge at halftime.
The Rangers were plagued by cold shooting, especially early. The team shot better in the second half, making good on 51 percent of their shots, compared to 32 in the first half.
Parkside won most of the battles underneath, out-rebounding the Knights, 37-28.
Brittany Edelen, a transfer from the University of Kentucky, scored 20 points in the first half for Bellarmine. The Rangers limited her to seven in the second half.
Jen Moran and
Brittany Beyer paced the Ranger attack with 13 points apiece.
Brittany Hogen and
Jadee Rooney added 11 points each.
Next up for the Rangers is a game at Kentucky Wesleyan Monday at 5:30 p.m. Kentucky Wesleyan fell to Bellarmine in overtime earlier this season.
