Mercyhurst Adelphi Gannon Tiffin
The Ranger volleyball team is off to one of the best starts in program history. The team upped its overall record to 7-1 after winning four matches, two via sweep, at Gannon University, in Erie, Pennsylvania, over the weekend.
UW-Parkside played two matches each day. The squad started with Mercyhurst and Adelphi on Day One. The Rangers blanked Mercyhurst, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20, then took it to Adelpi, 25-9, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22.
Tami Gleason topped the team with six kills and a .400 hitting percentage.
Courtney Stack logged 17 assists and
Stacie Bower was credited with 15 digs.
Against Adelphi, Gleason continued to hit well, this time with eight kills and a .444 percentage.
Jen Johnson notched 10 block assists.
During the second day of the tournament, the Rangers topped host Gannon, 21-25, 25-14, 18-25, 25-19, 15-11. The team closed out the event by sweeping Tiffin, 25-14, 25-16, 25-22. Parkside hit for percentages of .309 and .333 as a team, respectively.
Three Rangers had double digits in kills against Gannon including
Caroline Langer (13),
Addie Kramer (12) and Johnson (10).
Andrea Gust and Stack each had 24 assists.
Cassie Wilkens led the Rangers in kills against Tiffin with 10.
The Rangers will open the home portion of the 2009 season with Winona State Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.
