Amanda Gibson became only the 11th player in UW-Parkside women's basketball history (originated in 1976) to score over 1,000 points in a career. Gibson's third point of the game, which was a basket-and-one in the first half, gave her the 1,000th point. She tallied eight in the game.
Gibson and her teammates defeated Northern Michigan, 75-68, in a non-conference game in the DeSimone Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The win ups the Ranger record to 3-1, while the Wildcats fell to 1-2.
The Rangers trailed briefly by two points early, then led throughout the contest. Parkside led, 40-26, at halftime.
The lead was extended to 51-34 when the Wildcats made a charge. NMU went on a 7-0 run to pull within 51-41. The lead was cut further to 70-64 with 3:20 to go.
At 1:26, Mariah Dunham fouled out for the Wildcats with her team trailing only by six. She had 33 points in the bank before leaving the game.
The Rangers had balanced scoring led by Brittany Hogen with 17 points. Jadee Rooney logged 15 points and drained the hat trick in three-pointers. Brittany Beyer put 14 points in the book and Kristen Ruchti came off the bench to tally 11.
Amy Selk pulled down 11 rebounds and scored eight points.
