The Ranger men's soccer team, ranked No. 5 in the Midwest Region, added another 'W' to its 2009 resume with a 3-0 win at Illinois-Springfield Friday night.
The win lofted UW-Parkside's record to 11-3-2 overall. The team is 6-3-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play and bumped its road record to 5-3-0.
Illinois-Springfield, playing in the GLVC for the first time this year, dropped to 1-12-1 overall and 0-11-1 in conference clashes.
Johnson Thao scored the game-winner for the Rangers. His eighth goal of the season was notched at 16:48. Thao's shot was a blast from 30 yards out and was unassisted.
Thao jumped into a tie for 10th, all-time, in UW-Parkside history in career goals scored with 28. He is tied with current UW-Parkside Associate Head Coach,
Jason Zitzke, who was an All-American in his Ranger playing days.
Kinkade Lo scored his first two collegiate goals as the visitors tacked on some insurance. Lo scored at 23:30 and again at 61:53, the latter of which was assisted by Spencer Bursten. Jose Alfaro and Matt Gloshen helped out on the initial marker.
"This was as dominant of a performance as we have had all season," mentioned UW-Parkside head coach Rick Kilps.
The Rangers put 12 shots on net in the conquest over the Prairie Stars. Ranger netminder Greg Fischer turned away a pair of UIS shots on goal en route to his third shutout of the season.
UW-Parkside will head to Quincy for a game with the Hawks Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The team returns home for a bout with Rockhurst Friday, Oct. 23, at 3:30 p.m., at Wood Road Field.
