Box Score
The school record for consecutive wins keeps getting larger. It now stands at nine as the UW-Parkside women's basketball team won a thrilling 75-72 Great Lakes Valley Conference game over visiting Drury in the DeSimone Gymnasium Thursday evening.
The Ranger defense came up big on the final possession. Drury had the last crack with 11.3 seconds to go in the game. The best the Panthers could do was a well-guarded three-point shot attempt at the top of the key from Lindsay Ballweg, which turned out to be an air ball. The buzzer sounded and the Rangers moved their overall record to 9-4 and an unblemished 5-0 in the GLVC.
UW-Parkside shot a staggering 73 percent in the first half and 60 percent for the game. The team led, 41-31 at halftime.
The Rangers went on a 10-0 run early, taking a 14-5 lead. The home team led by as many as 14 points three different times.
in the second half, Jadee Rooney knocked down three three-point shots in a 2-minute span to give the Rangers a 69-57 lead. The Panthers then went on a 10-0 run of their own to whittle the gap to 69-67 with 2:21 to go in the game.
Jen Moran scored a big bucket for the Rangers to make it 73-70 with 33 seconds left. Moran took in a pass from Amanda Gibson and scored underneath, barely beating the shot clock. Gibson closed out the scoring with a pair of clutch free throws with 11.3 on the clock.
Gibson led all scorers with 23 points. She added five rebounds and five assists. Rooney chipped in 18 points to the winning cause.
Brittany Beyer notched 14 points.
Drury, last year's GLVC champion, dropped to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the GLVC.
The Rangers will host Missouri S&T Saturday at 1 p.m.
