Box Score
The UW-Parkside women's basketball team found itself in a familiar position early in a basketball game at Lewis...trailing. The pattern has existed throughout most of the games so far this season, but, more often than not, the Rangers come back.
Such was the case in the contest in Romeoville, Illinois, Saturday afternoon. After trailing by 14 points at 20-6, UW-Parkside came back and captured a 56-51 decision from the Flyers.
The Great Lakes Valley Conference win ups the Ranger record to 7-1. The gteam is 11-5 overall. Lewis was left with a 7-9 record and a 3-4 GLVC mark.
The 20-6 Flyer lead 12 minutes into the game turned out to be the wake-up call for the Rangers. The visitors went on a 12-0 in the Neil Carey Arena and it was 'game on.'
Parkside held a 27-24 lead at halftime. Lewis caught their guests and tied the game at 38-38 with 8:53 to go in the game. After the teams traded hoops, the game remained tied, this time at 44-44, with 4:30 left. After a pair of free throws from Brittany Hogen, the Rangers never trailed.
It was a three-point game when Lewis' Kady Currin notched an uncontested layup, bringing the score to 54-51. Amanda Gibson was fouled 12 seconds later. The steady junior made both free throws, putting the game away.
Hogen scored a career-high 19 points and was a perfect 7-7 at the free throw line. Brittany Beyer scored 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
The Rangers had a decided edge under the rim, out-rebounding the Flyers, 36-24.
UW-Parkside will host NCAA Division I SIU Edwardsville in the DeSimone Gymnasium Thursday, Jan. 22, beginning at 5 p.m.
