The UW-Parkside women's basketball team missed 18 consecutive shots during a stretch in the first half which proved costly in a 69-54 loss to Northern Kentucky. The Great Lakes Valley Conference contest was played at the DeSimone Gymnasium Thursday night.
Amanda Gibson drained a three-point shot for the first points of the game at 18:06. The Rangers did not tally another field goal until Denise Mannella dropped in a lay-up with 3:39 showing on the first half clock.
The Rangers trailed by as many as 22 points in the first half. The Rangers shot just 16 percent in the first half as they tried to recover from a 1-20 start from the floor.
Brittany Hogen was a bright spot for UW-Parkside. She came off the bench and registered a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Gibson notched 11 points and dished out five assists.
Mackenzie Heise etched her way into the 1,000-point club. She drained a three-point shot at the head of the key as time expired. Heise becomes the tenth player in UW-Parkside history to score 1,000 or more points.
The Norse shot 50 percent for the game. The Rangers made good on 34 percent of their shots.
NKU had a decided rebounding advantage. The Norse out-boarded the Rangers, 35-26.
Jessie Slack led a trio of Norse in double figures with 16 points.
