Kyle Clark notched 20 points as the UW-Parkside men's basketball team knocked off Northern Kentucky, 80-70, avenging a loss at NKU earlier this season. The Ranger winner was played at the DeSimone Gymnasium Thursday night.
The Rangers grabbed an early lead and never relinquished it. The team led, 24-15 with 9:30 to go in the first half on a jumper by #D.J. Dantzler#. Northern Kentucky whittled the gap to 29-27, but then the Rangers pulled away and regained a nine-point lead. UW-P was up by seven at halftime, 36-29.
After the Norse scored the first bucket of the second half, the Rangers went on a run which put them up by a dozen at 49-37 with 15:07 to go in the game. The closest NKU would come at any point was seven the rest of the way.
UW-Parkside shot 52 percent in the first half and an even 50 percent for the game. The squad was 7-13 from behind the arc.
Northern Kentucky, a proficient outside shooting squad, was limited to 42 percent shooting and was 4-15 from behind the arc.
The win foiled NKU's bid to win its 20th, falling to 19-6. The team is 13-5 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. It was only Northern Kentucky's second road loss all season.
UW-Parkside jumped to 15-11 overall and 8-10 in league play.
Northern Kentucky's Harrison Morton led all scorers with 24 points.
Four other Rangers joined Clark in double figures including Dave Keane with 13, Dantzler and LaVontay Fenderson with 11and Brad Ferstenou with 10.
The season will close with a home game versus Bellarmine Saturday, March 1, at 3:00 p.m.
