Southern Indiana was on fire early in a Great Lakes Valley Conference women's basketball game at the DeSimone Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The team parlayed hot-shooting into a 17-point lead at 35-18 with 6 minutes left in the first half.
But, the story doesn't end there.
The Rangers turned the game completely around and pulled out a 75-67 win over the Screaming Eagles.
The Eagles shot 61 percent in the first half of the game and were limited to just 27 percent in the second half.
Jadee Rooney knocked down a three-point shot with 9:27 to go in the game to give the Rangers a 58-54 advantage. Rooney hit another shot, this time a two-pointer, moments later which gave UW-Parkside a 60-54 advantage.
Southern Indiana cut the margin in half with 4 minutes to go in the game at 66-63. Denise Mannella came back on the next possession and hit a short baseline jumper to give the Rangers a 68-63 buldge with 3:15 to go.
Amanda Gibson, who tied a career high in points with 24, put the game away with a three-point shot with 1:35 to go which gave the Rangers an eight-point lead.
Brittany Beyer notched her first collegiate double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The Rangers dominated on the boards, out-rebounding the Screaming Eagles, 42-20. UW-Parkside pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
UW-Parkside is 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and 2-4 overall.
Next up is a non-conference game against Illinois-Springfield Wednesday, Dec. 10. The game will start at 5:30 p.m. in the DeSimone Gymnasium. UIS will join the Great Lakes Valley Conference next season.
