Southern Indiana came into the DeSimone Gymnasium with an 8-2 overall record and a 1-0 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and put another in the win column with an 83-58 win over UW-Parkside.
The Rangers trailed by four at 35-31 with 1 minute left in a highly competitive first half. USI jumped to a 40-33 lead at halftime.
UW-Parkside was a perfect 11-11 at the free throw line in the first half.
The first double digit lead for the Screaming Eagles came with 15:40 to go in the game. A steal by Marvin Gray, who set up Brandon Russ on a slam, made the score 48-39. Russ stole an inbounds pass, was fouled, and made a free throw as the Eagles went up 10.
The visitors pulled away in the final stages.
Dave Keane and LaVontay Fenderson each had 14 points for the Rangers.
The loss dropped the Rangers to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.
UW-Parkside will host Indiana Northwest in a non-conference game Monday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m.
