Monson qualifies for NCAA nationals

Jessica Monson added to her impressive collegiate athletic resume by qualifying for the NCAA Division II nationals to be held at Slippery Rock, Penn., Saturday, Nov. 22. Monson qualified as an individual by finishing in third place at the NCAA II Midwest Regional Saturday on Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. The event was hosted by Ferris State University.

Monson completed the 6k course in 21:33. Rachelle Malette of Wayne State was the individual winner, setting the pace at a brisk 21:19. Megan Maceratini of Grand Valley State was next best, crossing the finish line in 21:31, barely ahead of Monson.

As a team, the Rangers finished in seventh place with a team total of 141. A total of 18 schools competed.

The top three teams qualified for nationals and include the regional winner, Grand Valley State, 35; Wayne State, 90; and Ferris State, 111.

Those who figured into the scoring for UW-Parkside include Hope Christie, 35th, 23:45; Heidi Ertl, 23:47; Angie Adams, 49th, 24:12; and Heidi Andersen, 68th, 24:43.

A total of 132 runners competed.
