Big second half boosts Rangers

UW-Parkside found itself in a battle with region rival Northwood in the DeSimone Gymnasium Friday evening. The scales of the women's basketball game tipped in favor of the homestanding Rangers in a 72-59 victory.

The Timberwolves led, 34-32 at halftime. The Rangers out-scored their guests by a 40-25 margin in the second half. The Rangers took the lead for good at the 18:12 mark of the second half, when Kayla Ming connected on a three-point shot, giving her team a 38-36 advantage.

The lead reached double digits at 56-46 with 7:39 to go when Amanda Gibson buried a couple of foul shots. Gibson was 9-9 at the free throw line in the game and is now 26-26 on the season.

Ming starred for the Rangers. She knocked down five three-point shots en route to a game-high 27 points. She tacked on three steals, two assists and four rebounds to her impressive stat line.

Gibson scored 18 points and Mackenzie Heise added 10. Heise led the home team in rebounds with seven.

The Rangers shot 41 percent for the game. The Timberwolves made good on 37 percent of their shots from the floor. Despite the loss, Northwood out-rebounded the Rangers, 38-33.

Each team is 6-3 after the decision in Somers.

UW-Parkside has one more non-conference game left. The team will host Upper Iowa Saturday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m.
