University of Wisconsin-Parkside wrestler Nick Fishback is the first ever recipient of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Wrestler of the Week Award, winning the honor on Nov. 10.

The 165-pounder won his weight class on Saturday at the season-opening University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Open, finishing a perfect 4-0 at the event. Fishback edged out unattached wrestler Jamey Simmons 1-0 after receiving an opening round bye before pounding University of Wisconsin-eau Claire's Ryan Behnke 11-1 in the quarterfinals. The redshirt junior collected a 10-5 win over Lakeland College's Mitchell Fucile in the semifinals before blanking Concordia University's Casey Kenealy 4-0 in the finals to wrap up the weight class title.

The Great Lakes Valley Conference Wrestler of the Week is chosen through a nomination by and vote of the coaches of the five GLVC wrestling schools. The GLVC does not officially sponsor the sport of wrestling or host a league championship in the sport, as six schools are needed for a sport to become officially sponsored by the league.
