UW-Parkside's Pat Niyork made a late surge in the 5,000-meter run on Feb. 27 at the 2016 GLVC Indoor Championships, eding Southern Indiana's Josh Guy to capture the 5K crown on the home oval inside Petretti Fieldhouse. Niyork clocked a personal best and provisional qualifying time of 14 minutes, 36.99 seconds. Guy owned a sizeable lead a majority of the race before Niyork surged from the back of the chasing pack to the lead, saving his two fastest laps for the end, including a 31-second final loop to secure the 5K crown.
Niyork became the third Ranger to win the indoor 5K at the GLVC Championships, joining Quinn Newton (2005) and Ben Orvold (2010 and 2011).
