UW-Parkside distance runner Jessica Watychowicz ended up just one second shy of a national title on May 22, placing runner-up in the 10,000-meter run to claim All-American honors during the opening day of the 2014 NCAA Division II Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Grand Valley State Track & Field Stadium.

The senior finished the 25-lap race in 35 minutes, 26.44 seconds, crossing the tape just a few steps behind Adams State University's Lauren Martin to place second among the 21-competitor field. Martin claimed the national crown with a time of 35:25.33 while Watychowicz was three seconds clear of third place finisher Jessica Janecke from host Grand Valley State University (35:29.58).
