The Great Lakes Valley Conference released its weekly award winners on Monday, Jan. 27, with University of Wisconsin-Parkside guard
Jimmy Gavin claiming Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades. Gavin averaged 22.7 points, 3.7 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game last week, helping the Rangers down a trio of nationally-ranked programs to remain unbeaten in GLVC action.
Gavin came off the bench and posted a team-high 16 points and was six-for-seven from the floor on Monday night, helping the Rangers (16-2, 9-0 GLVC) knock off No. 23 Lewis University 94-88 inside DeSimone Gymnasium. Three days later against seventh-ranked Bellarmine University, the sophomore psychology major had a career-high 30 points to pace all scorers, sinking nine of his 14 shots from the floor and hitting 10 of his 12 free throw attempts as UW-Parkside slipped past the Knights 76-74. Gavin capped off the week on Saturday by collecting 22 points, including 20 in the second half as the Rangers downed ninth-ranked University of Southern Indiana 82-71 to extend the program's win streak to nine games.
The Bradley University transfer shot 71 percent (22-of-31) from the floor during the week, canning 41.7 percent (5-of-12) of his shots from three-point range. Â Gavin dished out 11 assists while collecting one steal and sinking 19 of his 22 free throw attempts. On the season, the guard averages 15.7 points per game and has finished in double figures in all but two games this season.
Gavin is the third Ranger to secure GLVC Player of the Week accolades this season, joining
Zygimantas Riauka who was honored on Jan. 13 and
Jordan Mach who was honored on Nov. 11.
