UW-Parkside goalkeeper Marcos Perez was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week on Sept. 9.

The senior tallied a shutout in his first career start against Robert Morris University-Lake County on Sept. 5 to open the season, notching one save in the Rangers 4-0 victory. Perez racked up nine saves and yielded just one true goal to second-ranked and defending national runner-up Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday as UW-Parkside salvaged a 2-2 double overtime draw against the Cardinals.

For the week, the business management major collected 10 saves in 200 minutes of action, boasting a goals against average of 0.90. Heading into the season, Perez had seen just 18 minutes of action in goal.

Perez becomes the first Ranger to claim a weekly GLVC honor since Bojan Jovicic was a two-time honoree during the 2006 season, earning the honor on Sept. 4 and again on Sept. 11. Perez is the younger brother of current UW-Parkside goalkeeper coach Victor Perez who was a two-time All-GLVC goalkeeper in 2004 and 2005, and a GLVC Player of the Week honoree on Sept. 14, 2004.
