Marcos Perez snagging GLVC Defensive Player of the Week accolades for the second time in his career.
The business management major collected 19 saves over the weekend, helping the Rangers (4-4, 2-4 GLVC) tally a pair of road shutouts. Perez played all 90 minutes and made a season-high 12 saves in the squad's 1-0 victory over the University of Southern Indiana on Friday. The goalkeeper continued to stonewall the opposition two days later, collecting seven saves in Sunday's 2-0 victory over the University of Illinois Springfield. The wins marked the first time UW-Parkside has posted back-to-back shutouts in GLVC play since 2009 when the Rangers rolled UIS 3-0 on Oct. 15 and Quincy University 2-0 on Oct. 18. This is the
second GLVC Defender of the Week award for Perez who also claimed the honor on Sept. 9, 2013.
On the season, Perez has started seven of the team's eight games, making 33 saves and logging 540 minutes in net with a goals against average of 1.50.
The Kenosha, Wisconsin native is the second Ranger to be honored by the
GLVC with Antonio Gonzalez landing Offensive Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 8.
UW-Parkside returns to the pitch on Wednesday, beginning a three-game homestand with non-conference foe Oakland City University coming to Wood Road Field.
