Matt Tegenkamp has been a major factor in U.S. distance running from his days at Lee’s Summit, Mo., High School through a stellar career at Wisconsin and now as a professional. A two-time Olympian—in the 5K in 2008 and the 10K in 2012—he also has made World Championship teams in 2007, 2009 and 2011. He set the American 2 mile record of 8:07.07 in 2007. “Teg” has won four USA titles in track (5K in 2009; indoor 3K in 2007-08) and cross country (club nationals in 2005). He has now turned his attention to the roads, where in 2014 he placed 7th in the New York Half-Marathon in 1:02:04. As a prep, he defeated Dathan Ritzenhein to win the 2001 USA Junior Cross Country Championship and went on to place fifth in the World Juniors.
