Rangers Drop Road Matchup to Lions, 4-2

HAMMOND, Ind. — On a rainy Wednesday afternoon, the Parkside men's soccer team lost to Purdue Northwest 4-2. Parkside scored both of its goals after halftime but was outshot 20-10, including 11-5 in shots on goal.

Mateusz Pass and the Rangers absorbed early Lions pressure, with the home side taking four shots before the Rangers earned a corner kick. PNW broke through in the 18th minute when Landon Potts scored off an assist from Aloe Berassa for a 1-0 lead, then continued to press as Pass saved attempts by Charlie Newton, Roman Lynch, and Nikola Ivetic, while Gio Magana and Massimo Juarez generated Parkside chances. After a foul-heavy stretch through the middle of the half, the Lions added to the lead in the 39th minute on Juan Martin Jersonsky's goal from Ricardo Cruz. Stefan Zekanovic put a shot wide moments later, and PNW finished the half with a 2-0 advantage.

Pass was tested early in the second half, stopping Ricardo Cruz and Nikola Ivetic, while Parkside began to build chances through an Angel Luevano shot, a Lucas Ahonen attempt, and a corner kick. Jaime Vazquez finished Carlos Manjarrez's assist in the 59th minute to cut the Lions' lead to 2-1, and Parkside followed with corner kicks around another save by Pass on Landon Potts. PNW made it 3-1 when Juan Martin Jersonsky scored from Sebastiao Sousa in the 68th minute, but Tank Anderson answered for Parkside off Gio Magana's assist in the 71st minute to make it 3-2. Parkside pressed again with an Anderson shot and a Keven Sosa effort saved, before Carson Byblow scored in the 84th minute and Gio Magana had a shot saved as the Lions closed out the 4-2 final.

Vazquez scored on his only shot, putting his attempt on goal. Anderson added a goal and finished with two shots, including one on frame. Gio Magana recorded an assist and put one of his two shots on goal. Pass made six saves in 90 minutes, with three stops in each half.

Parkside is 3-5-1 overall and 1-3-1 in GLIAC play. PNW is 6-1-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play.

Up next, the Parkside men's soccer travels to Marquette, Michigan, to face Northern Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. CT.
