KENOSHA, Wis. — Parkside broke open a close game with a six-run sixth inning and defeated Purdue Northwest 11-3 on Sunday at Historic Simmons Field, securing the series victory by taking three of four games.
Purdue Northwest took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on a Parkside throwing error. Parkside answered in the bottom half when
John Wubben delivered an RBI single to score
Benjamin Loyd and tie the game.
After a scoreless stretch, Parkside moved ahead 2-1 in the fifth.
Max Johnson doubled and later scored on a
Dylan Sayles bunt that resulted in a Purdue Northwest error.
Purdue Northwest briefly reclaimed the lead in the sixth, capitalizing on two Parkside errors to score twice and go up 3-2.
Parkside responded with its decisive rally in the bottom of the inning. The Rangers took advantage of multiple Purdue Northwest miscues, tying the game on a bunt error before taking the lead on a wild pitch. Sayles reached on an error that drove in two runs, Wubben followed with an RBI single, and
Nolan Maciejewski drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the six-run frame and give Parkside an 8-3 lead.
Parkside added two more runs in the seventh on an RBI double by
Joe Mrowiec and a sacrifice fly from Wubben. The Rangers scored once more in the eighth on another Purdue Northwest error to make it 11-3.
Parkside finished with 14 hits, led by Loyd, who scored three runs, while Wubben drove in three runs. Mrowiec and Maciejewski each had two hits.
Donovan Dykas started for Parkside, allowing three runs, none earned, over 5 2/3 innings.
Nathan Ciemny (4-4) earned the win with 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
