KENOSHA, Wis.- Parkside delivered a dominant offensive performance on Friday afternoon, defeating Purdue Northwest 20-6 in Hammond, Indiana.
After three scoreless innings, Purdue Northwest struck first in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Brayden Barrett to take a 1-0 lead. Parkside quickly responded in the fourth, as
Josh Wicker delivered a two-RBI single to give the Rangers a 2-1 advantage.
The Rangers broke the game open in the fifth inning with five runs.
Benjamin Loyd drove in a run with a double before
Dylan Sayles followed with a two-run double.
Joe Mrowiec capped the inning with a two-run home run, extending the lead to 7-1.
Purdue Northwest answered in the bottom half of the inning with four runs. Barrett added another RBI single, and Joey Guiliano launched a three-run home run to cut the deficit to 7-5.
Parkside responded emphatically in the sixth inning, putting the game out of reach with an eight-run frame.
Jackson Lindquist led off with a solo home run,
Angel Rades added an RBI single, and
Dylan Sayles drove in a run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Mrowiec delivered the biggest blow of the game with a grand slam—his second home run of the contest and eighth of the season—while
Hayden Dieschbourg added an RBI single to make it 15-5.
The Rangers continued to add on in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Mrowiec drew a walk to force in a run, followed by another bases-loaded walk from Wicker. Dieschbourg added a sacrifice fly, and Lindquist drove in a run with a single to push the lead to 19-5.
Purdue Northwest scored once in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Barrett, making it 19-6.
Parkside added its final run in the ninth inning when
Nathan Hanel doubled to center field, bringing home
Max Johnson to cap the scoring at 20-6.
At the plate, Parkside totaled 16 hits and drew 14 walks. Mrowiec led the way with two home runs and seven RBIs, while Sayles added three hits and three RBIs. Wicker contributed three RBIs, and Loyd reached base five times in the win.
On the mound,
Brennen Miller earned the victory, throwing 6.2 innings while allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts.
Peter Mulhern provided solid relief, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.
Chase Powrozek closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning, giving up two hits and striking out one.
