KENOSHA, Wis. – Parkside used a massive sixth inning to erase an early deficit and defeat Davenport, 8-7, on Friday afternoon at Historic Simmons Field, marking the Rangers' first win over the Panthers since April 21, 2024.
Davenport struck quickly in the top of the first, capitalizing on three hits to take a 3-0 lead. After a leadoff double, an RBI groundout opened the scoring before a two-run home run extended the early advantage.
Parkside starter
Brennen Miller settled in after the opening frame, delivering multiple quick innings to keep the Rangers within striking distance. He retired the side in order in the second and followed with another clean, efficient third inning to halt Davenport's momentum.
The Rangers broke through in the third inning.
Benjamin Loyd singled to spark the offense, followed by a base hit from
Dylan Sayles.
Josh Wicker delivered an RBI single to score Loyd, trimming the deficit to 3-1 while also advancing runners on a Davenport error.
Davenport added to its lead in the fourth, using a pair of RBI singles to make it 5-1. However, Miller responded with more efficiency, working a quick fifth inning and stranding a runner at third in the sixth to keep the deficit at four.
That set the stage for Parkside's game-changing sixth inning.
The Rangers erupted for seven runs on six hits, flipping the game completely. Wicker opened the inning with a single before
Noah Goddard drew a walk.
Hayden Dieschbourg followed with a base hit to load the bases. After a strikeout,
Mason Mitacek delivered a clutch two-run single to make it 5-3.
Angel Rades then came through with an RBI double, scoring another run to cut the lead to one. Loyd followed with a two-run single to give Parkside its first lead of the game at 6-5. Moments later, Sayles delivered the biggest swing of the day, launching a two-run home run to right field to cap the seven-run inning and extend the lead to 8-5.
Miller continued to provide stability on the mound, tossing a quick, three-up, three-down seventh inning to maintain the Rangers' momentum before handing the ball to the bullpen.
Davenport threatened in the eighth, scoring twice on three hits to cut the lead to 8-7. With runners on, reliever
Leo Berger limited the damage, recording a key strikeout to end the inning and preserve the lead.
Berger closed the door in the ninth, allowing a leadoff single before the Rangers defense executed a sacrifice bunt and induced a groundout to move the runner to third. Berger then recorded a strikeout looking to end the game and secure his second save of the season.
Miller earned the win, tossing seven innings while working through early trouble and delivering several quick innings that allowed Parkside to mount its comeback.
Offensively, the Rangers were led by Loyd (2-for-4, two RBI), Sayles (2-for-3, home run, two RBI), and Mitacek (two RBI), while Wicker added two hits and an RBI as part of the 11-hit effort.
With the victory, Parkside not only claimed a key conference win but also snapped its skid against Davenport, earning its first win in the series since April 21, 2024.
