Rangers Fall Twice to Close Opening Weekend

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Parkside Rangers wrapped up their weekend slate Sunday afternoon with a pair 5–1 losses to William Jewell and Winona State at The Dome at Rosemont.

GAME ONE VS. WILLIAM JEWELL

The two teams played through three scoreless innings as both pitchers settled into an early rhythm. Parkside generated traffic with hits from Maddie Hernandez and CICI Di Silvio, while William Jewell starter Avrey Reynolds limited damage by inducing a series of flyouts to keep the Rangers off the board.

William Jewell broke the tie in the fourth inning, using a pair of base runners and a bunt single by Sheyenne Kelch to plate the game's first run and take a 1–0 lead. The Cardinals added to the advantage in the fifth, stringing together three hits, including an RBI single from Lexi Lopez and a sacrifice fly from Avery Webster, to extend the margin to 3–0.

Ellie Curtis kept Parkside within striking distance for much of the afternoon, working all seven innings in the circle. The right-hander scattered 12 hits and allowed just three earned runs while battling through multiple jams.

William Jewell added two insurance runs in the seventh inning, capitalizing on an error and a ground-rule double from Reagan Bennett to push the lead to 5–0.

Parkside broke through in its final at-bat. Isabel Aranda doubled to right field and later scored on an RBI double by Mia Johnson to account for the Rangers' lone run of the contest.

Johnson led Parkside with two hits, while Aranda, Di Silvio, Megan Medlin, Ava Swain, and Hernandez each added a hit as the Rangers totaled seven on the afternoon.

GAME TWO VS. WINONA STATE

Parkside struck first in the opening inning and showed early promise offensively. Mia Johnson led off with a double to right center and moved to third on a fielding error before coming home on a groundout by CICI Di Silvio, giving the Rangers a 1–0 advantage after one.

Winona State answered in the second inning, taking advantage of a Parkside error to even the score at 1–1, then moved in front in the third. A walk and a single set the table for an RBI base hit by Lila McNeill that pushed the Warriors ahead 2–1.

The Rangers had opportunities to respond, collecting seven hits in the game, including multiple base runners in the fifth inning, but were unable to come up with the timely hit. Johnson paced the offense with three hits, while Isabel Aranda and Gracin Foytik each added singles as Parkside continued to generate contact throughout the lineup.

Winona State created separation in the sixth inning with the game's biggest swing. After a runner reached and stole second, Bryn Elsenpeter delivered a two-run home run to deep right field to extend the lead to 5–1. The Warriors finished with 10 hits on the afternoon, getting three-hit performances from both McNeill and Tiegan Mancuso.

Holly Lowenberg started in the circle for Parkside and worked into the sixth inning, allowing four earned runs while navigating several high-traffic innings. Melanie Andrysiak came on in relief and recorded the final five outs to keep the deficit from growing.

Parkside continued to battle late, with Johnson adding a ground-rule double in the seventh, but the Rangers were unable to mount a comeback as Winona State closed out the 5–1 result.

Parkside will be back in action with five games at the Oasis Sports Complex in Marion, Illinois, between February 27 and March 1.
