KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Parkside Baseball opened its weekend series with a 4–3 victory over Truman State on Thursday, while game two of the doubleheader was suspended due to a lack of daylight and will be completed Friday in Kirksville.
Game 1
After falling behind early, Parkside erased a two-run deficit in the fifth and sixth innings and then relied on strong relief pitching to close out the win against Truman State (3-2).
Truman State struck first in the opening inning when Oliver Degenhardt launched a solo home run to left field to give the Bulldogs a 1–0 lead. The score held until the fourth, when Truman added another run on Joey Fentress' sacrifice bunt, scoring Nick Steurer to make it 2–0.
Parkside answered in the top of the fifth.
Josh Wicker singled and later scored on a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 2–1. Moments later,
John St. Clair delivered the big swing of the game, blasting a two-run home run to left field to plate
Karson Stiefer and give the Rangers a 3–2 lead.
Truman responded in the bottom of the fifth on Tyler Towe's sacrifice fly, bringing home Jax Markham to briefly tie the game at 3–3.
The Rangers regained the lead in the sixth.
Trace Kirchberg reached base and came around to score on an error following a single by
Jackson Lindquist, pushing Parkside back in front, 4–3.
On the mound,
Keegan Waters allowed two runs over four innings in the start for Parkside.
Austin Grube (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, and
Leo Berger worked the final inning, allowing no runs while striking out one to collect his first save of the season.
Offensively, St. Clair finished 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for Parkside, while Lindquist went 2-for-4. Truman was led by Degenhardt who went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
Game 2
Game two of the doubleheader was suspended due to a lack of daylight and will be completed on Saturday. The game will resume from the point of stoppage and be followed by the regularly scheduled contests between Parkside and Truman State in Kirksville.
UP NEXT
The Rangers will continue action against the Bulldogs with two games on Saturday, February 21 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., followed by a matchup on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
