ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Parkside women's soccer team wrapped up non-conference play on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-0 to Concordia-St. Paul at Sea Foam Stadium. With the loss, the Rangers close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 0-3-1 record and now look ahead to the start of GLIAC play next weekend.
The Golden Bears (3-0-0) opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Jada Cannady found the back of the net off an assist from Ashley Bennett to give Concordia-St. Paul an early lead. Despite the early deficit, Parkside goalkeeper Tristen Cross, making her second career start, kept the match within reach by collecting five total saves, including several key stops late in the first half to send the game into halftime at 1-0.
Concordia-St. Paul wasted little time putting the match out of reach after the break, scoring three times in a span of 18 minutes. Sophia Haase scored in the 55th minute before Bennett added a goal of her own just 59 seconds later. Stella Nielsen capped the scoring in the 72nd minute off a feed from Belle Abruzzo as the Golden Bears outshot Parkside 14-8 overall and 9-2 in shots on goal while also holding a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Rilyn Breinholt and Stephanie Salmeron each recorded two shots to lead the Rangers offensively, while Leah Forde and Carley Nolte each added one shot on goal in the loss.
Parkside will now turn its attention to GLIAC play, opening the conference schedule at home on Friday, Sept. 19 against Michigan Tech at 1 p.m. before hosting Northern Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 21 at noon at Wood Road Field.
