Parkside Falls to St. Cloud State, Wraps Up Non-Conference Play Sunday

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team dropped a tough road contest to St. Cloud State on Friday evening, falling 5-0 at Husky Stadium in Minnesota. The setback moves the Rangers to 0-2-1 on the season heading into their final non-conference match this weekend.

The Huskies (2-0-1) struck early and often, opening the scoring in the 10th minute when Ana Spaine found the back of the net off a feed from Brooke Quam. Quam set up the second goal as well, assisting Cady Compton in the 34th minute before Darby Allen made it 3-0 just before halftime on a pass from Grace Olson.

St. Cloud State kept the pressure on after the break, as Spaine netted her second goal of the evening in the 52nd minute, again assisted by Quam. The Huskies capped off the scoring in the 62nd minute when Linsey Trapino converted a cross from Gabby Hofeld to make it 5-0.

Parkside managed four total shots, including two on goal, but could not break through against the St. Cloud defense. Freshman goalkeeper Tristen Cross made her first career start as a Ranger, tallying eight saves — including seven in the opening half — while facing 17 total shots.

Key team statistics told the story as St. Cloud State held a 17-4 advantage in shots, including 13-2 in shots on goal. Parkside earned six corner kicks, all in the second half, while the Huskies finished with five on the evening.

The Rangers will look to rebound quickly as they wrap up non-conference play at Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday, Sept. 14, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. in St. Paul, Minnesota.
