Parkside Baseball Falls to Davenport in Walk-Off Heartbreaker, 4–3

LANSING, Mich. — The Parkside baseball team's postseason run came to an end in heartbreaking fashion Friday afternoon, falling to top-seeded Davenport, 4–3, on a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning at Jackson Field in the GLIAC Tournament elimination bracket.

Parkside (30–21) gave the No. 1 Panthers (39–13) everything they could handle, taking the game down to the final pitch. After trailing 3–1 entering the ninth, the Rangers rallied to tie the game behind clutch baserunning and timely pressure at the plate. Jake Petasek got things started with a one-out single, followed by Jackson Lindquist being hit by a pitch. Moments later, a throwing error and a wild pitch allowed Petasek and pinch runner M ax Johnson to both score, tying the game at 3–3.

But in the bottom of the ninth, Davenport strung together three singles, capped off by a walk-off single to left-center that brought home the winning run for the Panthers.

Davenport struck first in the opening inning with an unearned run, but Parkside answered in the third. Peter Fusek doubled and scored on a sharp single to right by Owen Brock, knotting the game at 1–1. The Panthers regained the lead in the fourth, capitalizing on a leadoff single and a double to eventually plate two runs on sacrifice flies.

The Rangers' pitching staff was strong all afternoon. Sam Mommer started and allowed just two earned runs over four innings. Austin Grube tossed three scoreless frames in relief, and Carter Storti pitched into the ninth before surrendering the game-winner. As a staff, Parkside allowed just three earned runs on ten hits while striking out three.

For Parkside, Fusek (1-for-5, double, 2 runs), Brock (1-for-4, RBI), and Petasek (1-for-1, run) highlighted a gritty offensive effort.

Though the loss ends their postseason, the 2025 campaign marked a major step forward for Parkside baseball. With 30 wins, the Rangers posted their most successful season since 2005 and reestablished themselves as a rising program in the GLIAC.
