ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Parkside softball team battled in the GLIAC Championship on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers took on top seeded Saginaw Valley State and would fall 8-0.
The Rangers had opportunities early, recording a two-out single from
Ava Swain in the top of the first and a base hit from
Mia Johnson in the sixth, but were held scoreless by a strong SVSU pitching performance. Parkside managed just three baserunners over the final four innings and was held to two hits on the day.
Saginaw Valley opened the scoring in the first with an RBI single up the middle from. The Cardinals added two more in the fourth on RBI hits to make it 3-0.
A five-run sixth inning put the game out of reach. SVSU capitalized on three hits, two walks, and a Parkside error to extend the lead to 8-0.
The Rangers end their season with a 29-24 overall record and 14-13 in conference play. It's the best season since the Rangers went 30-21 in 2010.
