Parkside to Welcome GVSU for GLIAC Opener

Kenosha, Wis. - Parkside is set for the 2025 GLIAC opening series this weekend against Grand Valley State at home. The four-game series is set to begin this Friday at Historic Simmons Field, with a twin bill on Saturday and the finale on Sunday.

Scouting Parkside

  • The Rangers enter the weekend with a 14-4 overall record.
  • After a 13-1 start to the season, they have dropped three of their last four, including two losses to No. 16 Minnesota State Mankato last Monday. However, Parkside displayed resilience, holding leads in both games.
  • Parkside is now 5-3 in their return to Historic Simmons Field in 2025.
  • The Rangers lead the conference with a .390 team batting average, which ranks second in the nation as of today.
  • Senior Peter Fusek enters the weekend with an impressive .507 batting average through 17 games played. Senior Owen Brock joins him in the top ten with a .477 average.
  • Freshman Sam Mommer continues to lead the pitching staff with a 3.18 ERA through 22.2 innings of work, tallying 21 strikeouts along the way.
  • Senior Noah Gerritson has pitched 16 strong innings on the mound, recording 21 strikeouts.

Scouting GVSU

  • The Lakers bring a four-game win streak into the weekend in Kenosha.
  • They hold an impressive 16-4 overall record, with a 7-1 mark on the road and a 5-3 record in neutral-site contests.
  • Junior Jovan Gill is fresh off GLIAC Player of the Week honors after hitting .471 with two home runs, two doubles, and nine RBIs.
  • Sophomore Owen Avery was named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week after striking out 11 batters through seven innings in a win over Gannon.
  • GVSU currently ranks third in the conference with a .322 team batting average. However, they lead the GLIAC in home runs with 21 this season — five more than the next closest teams (Parkside 16, Davenport 16).
  • The Lakers' pitching staff ranks second in the conference with a 3.78 team ERA.

Grand Valley State has historically controlled the series against Parkside, entering the weekend with a 26-9 all-time record. Last season, the teams met seven times, including six regular-season matchups. Parkside posted two victories in Allendale, scoring 13 runs in both games. The teams later met in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament, where GVSU defeated Parkside 8-1.
