Rangers Return Home After Strong Showing in Canada

11/13/2025 9:00:00 AM

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Parkside women's basketball team returns home this weekend to open its 2025-26 home slate after an impressive performance at the CCA Division II Canadian Tip-Off Classic. The Rangers went 2-1 in the event, earning wins over Simon Fraser (B.C.) and Saint Martin's before falling narrowly to Western Washington in the final matchup of the weekend. The three games served as early non-conference tests for Parkside, giving the team valuable experience against fierce competition and a chance to set the tone for the season ahead.

The Rangers are currently led by Katie Hamill, who is averaging 16 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, while Cassidy Arni has also been a consistent presence, averaging 12 points and 5.3 rebounds. Together, the duo has paced a Parkside offense that has shown balance and efficiency through the early part of the season.

This weekend marks the team's first two home games of the season, as Parkside hosts a pair of non-conference matchups against Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) opponents in Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis. Both games offer the Rangers an opportunity to test themselves against familiar foes while playing in front of their home fans for the first time this year. Friday's matchup doubles as Parkside's Education game, where more than 200 local elementary and middle school students will fill DeSimone Arena, creating one of the most energetic atmospheres of the season. The Rangers close the weekend with a Saturday afternoon matchup against UMSL, another GLVC opponent that traditionally brings physicality and defensive toughness.

Maryville enters the weekend 1-1 in exhibitions, coming off back-to-back matchups with Division I opponents that included a 90-84 overtime win over Missouri and a 79-60 loss to Illinois. The Saints feature a balanced and deep roster that averages 35 bench points per game, highlighting their ability to rotate multiple scoring threats throughout the lineup. Lindsey Schadewalt currently leads Maryville in scoring at 18 points per game, highlighted by an explosive 23-point performance in their win over Missouri. Annika Pluemer has also provided a reliable scoring touch, averaging 12 points per game.

Historically, Parkside has enjoyed success in this matchup, holding a 7-2 all-time record against Maryville, including a 5-game winning streak and a perfect 3-0 mark at home. In last season's previous matchup, the Rangers earned a 75-60 road victory, where returning players Cassidy Arni and Peighton Nelson led the way – Arni recorded an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Nelson added 16 points in the win.

SCOUTING UMSL:
UMSL has yet to play a game this season but is scheduled to open its campaign against Roosevelt University the day before facing Parkside.

Parkside holds a 12-3 all-time advantage in the series, including a three-game winning streak and a 6-1 record at home. In last season's meeting, the Rangers earned a 71-62 victory, powered by a standout performance from returning guard Peighton Nelson, who scored 22 points to lead the way.

LOOKING AHEAD:
Parkside will return to action on Tuesday, November 25th, at 5:30 p.m. when the Rangers travel to Romeoville, Illinois to take on Lewis University in another non-conference matchup.

With three home games in the next two weeks, the Rangers have a prime opportunity to establish momentum, strengthen their home court identity, and continue building toward a successful 2025-26 campaign.
